The Department of Human Biology

The department’s faculty members and research teams share common themes: cell – tissue interactions in human physiology (as a basis for human functioning), understanding basic mechanisms of disease processes (patho-physiology), and the development of novel treatment options by manipulating cell signaling and cell-tissue interactions. These lines of research are thus concerned with cancer biology, cell-signaling and immunology, normal development and aging as well as with normal physiological functioning at the molecular, cellular and importantly at the tissue-systems level. An addition focus is on human function and diseases (patho-physiology) in relation to environmental factors, nutrition and sleep. The Department of Human Biology is at the core of the University of Haifa’s initiative on research on aging, with many of the department’s research groups increasingly addressing the biological processes of normal aging as well as aging-related disorders.
