The lab investigates biodiversity dynamics in the Anthropocene (the era of human dominance and impact on nature) across different scales, particularly in urban and insular environments. Our research spans four key domains:
1. Biogeography: Analyzing factors impacting urban and island biodiversity, including natural and human-induced influences. Through studying biotic assemblages, species' urban affinity, and differential population success, we unravel the drivers of urban and insular biodiversity patterns and their conservation implications.
2. Evolutionary ecology: Investigating species' evolutionary responses to urbanization and insularity, focusing on morphology, life history, and behavior to comprehend adaptive processes shaping biodiversity in these systems.
3. Species Interaction Dynamics: Exploring how human activities such as urbanization and species introductions impact species interactions within ecosystems, illuminating the ecological consequences of human-driven environmental changes.
4. The Links Between Biodiversity, Anthropologic Diversity, and Human-Nature Relationships: Examining how anthropologic diversity interplays with biodiversity patterns and human-nature relationship, particularly in urban areas. By understanding these complexities, we strive to understand the efficiency and the trajectories to enhance conservation strategies in human-dominated landscapes
